Previously, the Age of Wonders series dropped players into epic wars set within fantasy worlds full of elven courts and warring dragons. This new Age of Wonders isn’t perfect, but its unique strategy-driven battles were worth the wait. Fortunately, these long gestations give Triumph Studios plenty of time to refine the strategy and pack a lot of tiny features into its robust combat system, and that is evident in Planetfall. Before that, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic dropped in 2003. Doctrines use up Strategic Operations points and energy, and the effects last until they’re toggled off.Age of Wonders is a long-running strategy franchise, but new entries only release every other blue moon. Doctrines – These are usable on the world map and they provide your empire with a slew of buffs. ![]() Strategic Operations use up a Strategic Operation point and energy, and they need to be primed for several turns before being available again. Some Strategic Operations include terraforming various locations, spawning a hostile army, debuffing or destroying units in an army, killing off a city’s population, teleportation, cloaking your forces, resurrecting a hero, or starting your road to becoming the planetary governor and earning the Unifier Victory. Strategic Operations – These are usable anytime on the world map once they’re primed.Tactical Operations use up a Tactical Operations point. Some Tactical Operations include spawning mechs, debuffing units against an elemental damage type, healing an area, calling down an airstrike, and more. Tactical Operations – These are usable only during tactical battles.Last but not least, you’ve got the final ingredient in your Age of Wonders: Planetfall playthrough - these are your Operations.
